Caleffi and the new version of UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard

Date

Caleffi was one of the first companies in Italy to have requested and obtained a certification for the upgrade to the new UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard. This time, though, it wasn't just a routine update: the new version of the standard required much more in-depth analysis, calling into question the entire corporate ecosystem. The entire organisation had to overhaul its corporate outlook from all possible angles - assessing its surroundings, reference markets, suppliers and partners, social scenario and internal resources (human, financial and material) so as to identify and manage risks and opportunities. Clearly, a series of actions had to be put in place in order to boost the efficiency of the management systems and to protect valuable assets.

In other words, the Management had to carry out a complex and thorough SWOT analysis of the company, without neglecting the needs and expectations of the "Interested parties" stakeholders.

Now, let's briefly describe the path we followed to give you an idea of the work undertaken:

  • Description of the organisation and identification of valuable assets seen against the internal and external context
  • Identification of internal/external context issues (PEST analysis - political and legal factors, technological factors, competitive factors, market factors, cultural and social factors, economic, environmental and territorial factors, value and ethical factors, cultural factors and knowledge of the organisation)
  • Analysis of each and every factor in the existing situation as compared to the expected / forecast situation
  • Identification of the needs and expectations of the "Interested parties" (stakeholders)
  • Identification and assessment of risks and opportunities: each event was appraised according to a shared classification scheme so as to obtain indexes meant to enhance the Management dashboard with useful insights, allowing managers to make better decisions.

The analysis involved all the Departments for over a year and was a huge opportunity to pool knowledge in terms of management.

But the experience didn’t end once the certification process was over. It was never just a snapshot of a moment in time to be put to one side once official approval was obtained. It is a living picture which is updated constantly as time goes by. The new version of UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard triggered a top-level overhaul which will bring considerable added value to the company and at the same time boost the guaranteed value for all stakeholders. This almost goes without saying, but it leads to a keener awareness of available opportunities and existing strengths as compared to any limits that need to be overcome or problems that need solving. Naturally, all of this inevitably raises the efficiency levels of all management systems.
